Lost & Dissolved
Greece / Germany 2022, color, 4 min, OV, Engl. sub
Director: Dong Zhou
Between cooking shows, surrealistic rituals, and cannibal crime scenes, Lost and Dissolved reflects the issues in the real world. It questions: How far can we escape from what we what to break up with? How much percentage of “us” have become part of “them”?
Between Me & Myself-V
Germany 2016, color, 8 min, OV, Engl. sub
Director: Andreas Eduardo Frank
“Between Me and Myself V” is part of a set of pieces by the
German composer Andreas Eduardo Frank in which the performers perform
duos, trios, quartets and so forth with their electronic selves through
pre-recorded videos. Between Me and Myself V, for solo saxophone,
features the saxophonist and several video ‘strips’, with the
prerecorded parts harmonising, accompanying or providing a counterpoint
to what the performer is doing live, both aurally and visually. The
former pieces feature different instruments as soloperformances and also
iterations in which the solo pieces are heard together, creating an
almost symphonic level of independent musical lines and requiring that
the performers react to the others as well as to the video. Sometimes
the performers are seen to be ‘triggering’ the video with their playing,
sometimes the video seems to be forcing the players to react to it, and
often the live and electronic players play in sync, creating a huge
texture based around only a single live performer.

The Keen Illimitable Secret of Begin
Germany 2021, color, 7 min, OV, Engl. sub
Director: Leah Muir
A keen is an Irish funeral song accompanied by wailing in lamentation
for the dead. With so much lost in this pandemic, a senseless war
against an invisible invader who has had more power over our lives than
anything else, have we given ourselves the space to grieve what we have
lost? E. E. Cummings expresses this unending sense of loss and ache for a
new beginning. With the expressive power of two unearthly voices of
Irene Kurka and Martin Wistinghausen, and the Cummings poetry, I wish to
write a piece that acts as an expressionistic musical landscape,
wrenched out of musical abstraction and thrown into wailing lamentation,
a memento mori for all of us to grieve together our finite time on this
earth.
