THE MIGRATING IMAGE
Director: Stefan Kruse
STATEMENT OF THE JURY:
A film that refects the brutal reality of the process of immigration; using images about and
from the immigrants. Combined from diferent sources, the images make the viewer
contemplate about the reality behind the image and the image behind the reality. The
Bavarian Television Short Film Prize goes to THE MIGRATING IMAGE by Stefan Kruse.
B.)
Short Film Prize of the town of Regensburg

und Jani Sellmann
PRISONER OF SOCIETY
Director: Rati Tsiteladze
STATEMENT OF THE JURY:
It’s about balls. At least indirectly, because it is “balls” that the small production team of our winning film at the choice of topic shows us. The flm ofers a very special insight into the life of the protagonist, who is honest and open to the camera and shows the obstacles she is faced with every day. The non-acceptance of society becomes brutal in direct contrast to her extraordinary self-acceptance and her unique personality. The courage to make this film in Georgia in spite of the controversial political and social opinions on the topic oftransgender is impressive and deserves the highest respect.
Special Mention
SOLAR WALK
Director: Réka Bucsi
STATEMENT OF THE JURY:
Abstract objects and color formations speed past us on the way through another universe.
Whether we land on strange planets or new solar systems are being created, the flm will
take its spectators on an extraordinary journey. The soundscape of an orchestra
accompanies the whole process and creates a framework for the succession of
impressions. In combination with the special and individual animation, the flm SOLAR WALK by Réka Bucsi deserves an honorary mention.

NEKO NO HI / CAT DAYS
Director: Jon Frickey
STATEMENT OF THE JURY:
We were enthralled by this brilliantly witty and absurdist exploration of authority, parenting and identity. Taking aesthetic inspiration from Japan, this short animation is characterised by a fresh, minimalist palette and design in keeping with the location of its setting. A seamless symbiosis between art and storytelling, we are thrilled to confer the Candis Prize for the Best Film in the German Competition to a flm that is so clear in form and message and so profound in its celebration of individual expression, NEKO NO HI / CAT DAYS directed by Jon Frickey.
B.)
Max Bresele Memorial Prize

WUNSCHBRUNNEN // WISHING WELL
Director: Sylvia Schedelbauer
In awarding the Max Bresele Memorial Prize for the flm with special political relevance, we
decided on a work that at frst glance does not seem to be classically located in the feld of
political cinema. But what is this feld and what does “classically” mean and shouldn’t
political cinema question exactly these parameters? In any case, our winning flm reveals in
a deeply sensual, almost hypnotic way that politics is always a question of form and not just content. Here is a filmmaker who works her way through the school known as experimental film in order to flter out her very own physical and decidedly female view of the world. In the process of transformation from the pure, beguiling form into fragmented worlds of memory featuring images of a forest, a river, a child and the evoked feeling of touching a fragile nature – reinforced by the use of analogue material – we discover an urgent and vital political attitude, composed of what is personally and individually missing, in place of the exploitation of great and troubling themes with a raised and moralising fnger. Exploring the utopian potential of our perception and cinema at the same time, this is a flm full of bridled longing, of dreams we once had, full of touches that get lost in the negative image of life. And because the flmmaker causes us to feel these things so intensely, we confer the Max Bresele Memorial Award for the flm with special political relevance to Sylvia Schedelbauer for her film WUNSCHBRUNNEN / WISHING WELL.
Special Mention
RULES OF PLAY
Director: Merlin Flügel
STATEMENT OF THE JURY:
We would like to distinguish a flm that takes us into a puzzling and enigmatic world. Like
researchers, we fnd ourselves observing strange creatures and try to fathom the rules and
goals of their games. This in turn, adeptly causes us to question the peculiarities of our own games and conventions. A remarkable feature of the flm lies in its ability to express subtle and surprising humour and how this is formally achieved through timing, sound and movement. We grant a special mention to RULES OF PLAY by Merlin Flügel.

Architekturflmpreis // Architecture Film Prize

FAIR GROUNDS
Director: Minhye Chu
STATEMENT OF THE JURY:
The film FAIR GROUNDS by Minhye Chu convinces by its complex simplicity, economic
approach und poetic visuality and squeezes the nocturnal eight hours long destruction of a
giant wheel by a single mechanic into only eight minutes. The flm manages suggestively to
show architecture as a work of art in between severe functionality and free form. By
destructing the construction of the giant wheel that reminds the viewer of the choreography of a dance (as well as Marc Ribouds legendary Magnum-photo „Tour Eifel, Paris, 1953), the film combines graphic space with art, human activity, static law and cinematic dynamics. Like this it shows what architecture means: sheer necessity and the one momentum which is more than that.
Special Mention
OPERATION JANE WALK
Directors: Robin Klengel & Leonhard Müllner
STATEMENT OF THE JURY:
Robin Klengel and Leonhard Müllner amaze with a fresh interpretation of the Ego-Shooter-
Game „Tom Clancy’s The Division“. The movie OPERATION JANE WALK diverts the digital
combat zone and becomes the ironic refection of a virtual architectural promenade through the recent development of Manhattan. The adoption of aggressive imagery into a civil application succeeds profoundly. The computer game’s city is presented as a place of win and loss and a reality full of social distortion and public spirit.

FilmFernsehFonds Bayern subsidy prize
Jury: Raphaela Henze, Tom Kimmig, Tobias Krone
FAME
Directors: Lene Pottgießer, Christian Hödl
STATEMENT OF THE JURY:
There are worlds between a chicken ladder and a catwalk – that is what Jacky and Ferdi
from Entelhausen have to learn. Intolerance, exclusion and the manipulative power of the
supposed reality TV shows are topics, which the flm takes up with a good portion of black
humor, but without exposing its fragile characters. By using an idiosyncratic flm language
director Lene Pottgießer succeeds in giving the drama of fnding sexual identity in the
countryside humor and dignity at the same time. The FFF Award goes to Fame.
Special Mention
WILDSCHADEN / DEER DAMAGE
Director: Marcus Siebler
STATEMENT OF THE JURY:
There are so many films that we would like to praise. The German title of Tennessee
Williams’ A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE translates to TERMINUS LONGING. We would like
to make the ofcial honorable mention for the successful relocation of the terminus longing
to the terminus Petershausen. Annika Ziegltrum and director Marcus Siebler convinced us
with their atmospherically dense, excellently performed and detail loving film Wildschaden
(DEER DAMAGE).

A.1)
SEHNSUCHT / DESIRE
Director: Stefan Hahn
STATEMENT OF THE JURY:
A clever and quiet film that tells the story of a man who isolates himself and his time and
lives it in longing for his wife. The various techniques used in the flm refect the situations
and thoughts lovingly, expressively and with a lot of charm and wit. The clock and the
bottle(s), as symbols for the lonely and sad passing of time, which are destroyed at the end
by the man’s own knowledge and thus change the life of him back to the positive. The
courageous experiment of this stylistic collage has succeeded.
A.2)
IM FLUSS
Directors: Catharina Hamerle & Steffi Sixdorf
STATEMENT OF THE JURY:
A very authentic insight into life on a houseboat on the Danube. Through the sympathetic
protagonists, the viewer gains a direct and unadorned view of an alternative way of life. The peace and freedom along the river landscape were perfectly captured by long, constant camera shots and cuts – onto the boat and from the boat – and make excessive
explanations about the special life unnecessary.
Special Mention
DER WEG ZUM WASSER
Directors: Lukas Ganahl, Marlies Nindl, Andreas Mühlbauer
STATEMENT OF THE JURY:
The flm tells the story of a great development aid project that brings drinking water to the
school of about 800 children in Uganda. A German-Austrian team made possible the frst
“water ram”, a hydraulic water pump, in this region where drinking water is difcult to obtain. The documentary convinces through technical perfection, professional treatment and a clever structure of the information, and at the same time it captures the viewer on an
emotional level.
