Deutscher Wettbewerb 4
On a societal level, the built world presents everyone with differentiated challenges in finding identity (MEMORIES OF THE BERLIN ROOM). This program pleads for perceiving and accepting the world as a jointly lived space in its cultural diversity. In everyday life, the identification with religions (SACRED CLOCKWORK), sexualities (ZUMINDEST BIN ICH DRAUSSEN GEWESEN & LOVE IS IN THE AIR), ethnic origins (ZAUN & A PART OF ME), work realities (SUITE & LOWER AMBITIONS) plays a decisive role. In the process, one is forced to be exposed to constant change, which can also end in a (finding) crisis (KING). How fast the social context develops in the process was put on display during the lockdown (27 STEPS & VIRUS IN GELEE).

There are currently other fences at borders that rightly get more attention. But a fence is a fence, even if it is only to prevent wild pigs from crossing the border. It is a symbol of borders, isolation and surveillance, and a regional farce about which one can wonder, but which is capable of changing Europe’s self-image.
Sacred Clockworks
Germany 2021, color, 4 min, OV, Engl. sub
Director: Moritz Schuchmann
The experimental film Sacred Clockworks reflects religion through photographic animation of their impressive sacral architecture. Thereby the domes of churches, mosques or synagogues are treated like clockworks – infinitely continuous, embodying thousands of years of history. It examines the dome’s distinctive structure built from multiple layers of circular patterns. It is an homage to the beautiful art that emerged from religious institutions without overlooking the fact that these same institutions led to violence, suffering and death. And a reminder of the commonalities of different religions by examining the similarities of their sacral architecture. A statement for more tolerance and against any fundamentalism.

In 1932, media mogul and German Nationalist Alfred Hugenberg shaped the phrase "Social means creating jobs“. The interest group INSM, founded in 2000, brought the slogan around Agenda 2010 back into German politics. But already at the end of the 1990s, the old enemy image of the "work-shy" and "asocial" was conspicuously repeated on private television. Did afternoon talk shows create Agenda 2010?
