Repression is a defense mechanism that regulates inner-psychic and interpersonal conflicts. But it is often not a solution. Therefore it is worthwhile to look back into the past, to work it up personally (TWO FATHERS & SHTUM & LYDIA), to learn from mistakes (OBERVOGELGESANG) and to build on traditional cultural assets and experiences (UP, UP, UP & COW AROOUND). Memory can be versatile. While one seeks distraction in the loneliness of old age (HELGA), one sometimes needs a lot of imagination (WINTER COLOURS) or even therapies (THE TRAIN DRIVER) in order not to push what has been experienced onto the siding.

Helga

Helga, a lonely pensioner, sits alone in front of her TV in the evening and peels potatoes. Surprisingly, the phone rings, although she hasn’t actually been called for a long time. It’s the Norba opinion research institute, which is conducting a survey on digital media consumption among students. Instead of hanging up, Helga follows an inner impulse and pretends to be a student.

She, translator of French literature, he, Romance studies professor. Between life crisis and "joie de vivre", full of passion and disciplined work, driven by convictions and doubts and the fear of a fatal second tumor, their film recordings and Wolfgang’s diary texts fragmentary report about the beauty and the adversity of a symbiotic marriage and yet at the same time about a whole life.
