A Single Life

The motto of these seven films is “A Single Life. Condensed, evocative and moving, they tell stories about transience, loneliness and hope. They immerse us in a world in which one does not make it far without confidence and love. A dignified treatment and awareness of the elders of our society, was the driving force behind the curation of this exciting program. However, one is wrong in assuming that no smirk would be possible with this more melancholy subject matter.

Helga

Helga, a lonely pensioner, sits alone in front of her TV in the evening and peels potatoes. Surprisingly, the phone rings, although she hasn’t actually been called for a long time. It’s the Norba opinion research institute, which is conducting a survey on digital media consumption among students. Instead of hanging up, Helga follows an inner impulse and pretends to be a student.

An elderly man is looking after his paralyzed wife. Despite his old age and health problems he’s doing his best to relieve her suffering, which is getting worse day by day. His daughter helps him, trying to balance care with her work in the hospital and family life. Everyone has a different view on how to properly care for the sick, which often causes arguments.

When the bailiff conveys the eviction notice, the couple only got two more weeks to avoid the eviction.
